A type of slow-drying paint consisting of small pigment particles suspended in a drying oil. The advantages of this type of paint are that it goes on smoother, covers more thoroughly in one coat, shrinks less, and holds up well in high-traffic areas. The disadvantages are that it is more likely to crack, fade and yellow over time. Clean-up requires the use of solvents such as mineral spirits and turpentine which must be treated as hazardous chemicals for disposal.
