They are both part of the Baxi group, and between them they provide a full range of boiler designs which will suit almost every home in the UK. To help make your decision, we’ve put together a summary of the different boiler designs, together with their pros and cons, so you can choose the best type for your home.

Combi boilers

These are the big sellers in the UK boiler market today, with well over half of new installations being of this design. There are good reasons for that, too, as they suit the widest variety of homes and also appeal in a way that many buyers can’t resist – they are very efficient. The majority are rated ‘A’ on the official SEDBUK efficiency scale, which means that they use over 90% of the heat they produce to heat your home or water – very little is wasted, so it keeps your gas bills down. They are also convenient, as hot water is produced just as you need it, and they take up relatively little space as they don’t have storage tanks. On the down side, there is a limit to how much hot water they can heat at once, so they might not be up to the demand of very large homes, and because they are so efficient and are the latest design their price commands a premium over other designs.

System boilers

This design is probably the most common type in the UK. Requiring a storage tank in an airing cupboard for hot water, and a cold water tank in the loft, they take up a fair bit of space but they do their job admirably. Although they aren’t quite as efficient as a combi boiler, they are cheaper to buy while still being easy to maintain. In addition, storing the hot water means that it is always available in a large volume, so the demands of a large household can be met by this design.

Back boilers

Due to ever stricter building regulations, these were virtually unavailable in the UK until a few years ago when Baxi produced an updated model which met all the requirements, including being reasonably efficient, and gave them a new lease of life. Suitable in homes where there is very little room to spare, or where another design would be considered intrusive such as in a listed building they can be placed inside chimney breasts and hidden out of the way. They are only allowed as replacements for existing systems though, but if you are allowed one you’ll find that they are cheap to install and maintain, and extremely reliable.

Summary
There you have it. You can now make an informed decision about which type is likely to suit your requirements best. When you start looking for a retailer, you’ll find that both Potterton boilers and Baxi boilers are well represented in the UK, and the majority of fitters also have plenty of experience with them.

What Choices Do you Have When Buying A Boiler?

Almost every supplier in the UK will be advertising boilers for sale heavily at this time of year. They make most of their money at this time as cold weather hits and people find problems with their existing systems, and will pay whatever it takes to get their central heating and hot water working again. As a buyer, you may not be aware that you do have a few options when it comes to the actual purchase.
Options for Purchase
1) Buy a full system direct. This is by far the most common method of buying a replacement boiler system. You simply call the supplier or visit the website, and order the boiler and related parts directly from them. It’s a fairly quick way of doing things and you should be able to get what you need fairly quickly, as the supplier should have the stock available to send out straight away. The downside is that you well be paying full price for everything you buy, purely because the suppliers know you need it quickly and are unwilling to haggle or otherwise give discounts

2) Let your engineer buy it for you. This is a pretty good way of doing things. Talking through your needs with your fitter or engineer will allow you to get their views on what will suit you and your home, which brands are reliable and which aren’t, which are easy to fit and which aren’t, and so on. They will probably have links with a preferred supplier and, because they’ve got trade registration, may well be able to obtain a discount that you can’t. As long as they pass this on to you, you’ll be saving a bit of money as well time.

3) Source all the parts yourself. This option is potentially the cheapest, but it’s also the most difficult one to get right. Sourcing the parts you need from different suppliers means you can take advantage of individual discounts and sales to get everything cheaper than you would normally, but you need to know exactly what you are buying. Parts aren’t compatible between brands and even within brands a heat exchanger for one model won’t necessarily fit another one, for example. If you want to be sure, write down your list of parts, complete with part numbers, and discuss it with your engineer. They’ll be able to tell you whether the parts you have chosen will work together.

Whatever you choose to do with regard to buying your boiler, remember that the actual connection of the boiler to the gas supply should only be done by a certified engineer. You are free to do the pipe work, install radiators, connect up the water supply and install any storage or feeder tanks, but the actual gas connection should be done by a professional for safety reasons. Your warranty will certainly require it anyway, so don’t be tempted to cut corners and do this part yourself.

Choosing the Right Kind of Boiler

It’s that time of year when you can’t open a magazine or turn on the television without seeing advertising that shows boilers for sale. The trouble is, most people who do need to buy replacement boilers don’t really understand what the differences are so this article has been written to remove some of that confusion.

Combi boilers are the new kids on the block and are becoming increasingly popular. They are significantly different in design to other types of boiler, as they don’t need the airing cupboard to have a hot water storage tank or the loft to have a feeder tank. Instead, they heat the water within the boiler itself, pushing the warmed water along the pipes to the taps or the radiators where it is needed. They are very economical, with efficiency figures of over 90% easily attainable, and they are relatively cheap to install as they don’t need the additional pipework or storage tanks required with other designs. This also means they are compact and will save a lot of useful space in smaller homes, but the reverse of that is that their capacity to provide heat is limited. Larger houses with more than four bedrooms, and multiple bathrooms, will probably find that the combi boiler can’t produce enough hot water quickly enough, so other designs are better suited. There is also no backup source of heat as there is with other types, so if you lose your boiler you lose both your heating and hot water.

Regular boilers, or conventional boilers, are the most common type in UK homes. They usually consist of a boiler, a hot water storage tank in the airing cupboard, and a separate feeder tank which acts as a reservoir to replenish the tank as water is used. There may also be an electrically operated immersion heater which provides an alternative way to heat the water if the boiler fails. Most of these systems are fairly efficient and are rated ‘A’ on the SEDBUK scale, which means they have to use over 86% of the heat produced from burning fuel to heat water. They do take up a lot of room and they can be expensive to install, due to all the extra pipework that is required, but if you have a large home with heavy demand for hot water and heating then they are well worth considering.

System boilers are a variation on regular boilers, and actually remove some of the disadvantages while retaining the advantages. Firstly, the units have the individual components of the system built into them, so installation is easier, quicker and therefore cheaper. Secondly, the hot water is pumped directly from the boiler to the radiators and hot water cylinder, so response time is quicker and economy is improved. If you’ve got a high demand for hot water and have the space for a storage tank, but want something a bit more modern and efficient than a regular boiler, then this is what to look for in the ‘boilers for sale’ section of your suppliers website.

Fix Sticking Doors

Found this guide to fixing sticking doors online that I thought was pretty useful how to fix sticking doors.

How To Build Your Mobile Phone Jammer

Many enthusiasts across the web were searching for this awesome schematics, and I was among them. Many days (and even some nights) were given to the efforts of making such gadget by myself, yet it was hard to do without some instructions. But luck has found me and Jammer Store blog was in front of me featuring a post of their manufacturing team and their hints.

This blog post gave me probably all I needed to make my own jammer. Even if some things I discovered by myself, it was completely natural and really fun. So let me introduce my humble creation to you.

Construction Basics

The most widely used frequency band is GSM800 thus this cell phone blocker operates at the same band. So I took sweeping oscillator to be the VCO of this jammer. It is quite effective at operation though may be not so easy to construct without some quality testing equipment for RF electronics.

Local oscillator port from the mini-circuit mixer is driven by 45MHz clock oscillator which works like a noise generator. Local oscillator signal also goes through the impedance matching network with the purpose of equating impedance of clock oscillator with the impedance of the mini-circuit mixer port.

Mixer port is actually works like the RF input for cell phone jammer. It is connected right to the 800MHz antenna from old mobile phone. RF output is going straight to the amplifier located on the circuit. Amplifier makes output power stronger for about 16dbm. The empowered signal is going to the output antenna (also from old mobile phone).

Working Process

The transmitted and received band frequencies of 800MHz cell phone are always separated by the exact amount of 45MHz. Imagine a cell phone call is going out, being captured, modified and sent back to it. The rude mobile phone talker would enjoy his or her own voice instead of expected conversation.

If you have already heard about cell-based tracking devices which are using the GPS system of your car to make records of where you were going, this cell phone jammer can also block them. In addition this hand-made jamming device is probably able to block IED signals. I have said probably because there were no field tests (maybe it is good though).

Photos And Additional Notes

For this jammer 600MHz mixer were used and tweaked, you are free to find another one.

The amplifier is really need to be here for corresponding output power (though at the cost of some power supply thus working time).

Old aluminium box along with old UHF connectors were used to make frame and input and output lines of this signal blocker.

UHF connectors must be soldered to the circuit, both input and output.

If you use a nine volt battery, you will have to use a voltage regulator also. They were placed inside the aluminium box and separated by the foamed plastic from other electronic components.

The power switch and two antennas are connected. Everything seems to be done.

Your full-hearted jammer is ready to roll!

Scheme

decorating

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

Type your photo caption or credit here.

shelving

This is a template page

Use this template when you want to use photos and text to tell your story. Sponging On is a quick and simple technique that begins with the application of a solid base paint color. After the base coat dries, a wash or glaze is applied on top with a dampened sponge to create a mottled look. More than one glaze or wash color can be applied but each layer must be allowed to dry thoroughly before the next application. Lighter colors are typically applied over darker ones to create depth, but the opposite can be done for more definition and texture. Sponging Off is accomplished by applying a uniform glaze coat over the solid base with a brush or roller. Before the glaze coat begins to dry, use the sponge to remove some of the glaze to expose the undercoat.

You might also try using a flat base coat, then sponge over using the same color in a semi-gloss with a dabbing pattern, rotating the sponge as you progress. If extra bold- do it again with a little gloss- allowing to dry between coats. The combination of tone on tone can hide imperfections in old plaster walls or walls with a sophisticated decorator look. It is also incredibly easy to repair later, as a coat of flat on an affected area, then sponge, just blends into the other colors- especially when using whites.

PVC Pipe Projects & The work-piece is typically held against a fence, which provides a precise cutting angle between the blade and the longest work-piece edge. In standard position, this angle is fixed at 90°. A primary distinguishing feature of the miter saw is the miter index. The miter index allows the angle of the blade to be changed relative to the fence.

Wood screw

A tapered metal screw that can be driven into wood by a screwdriver.
