Wood stove set up

We are planning to have a wood stove installed (first-time installation in a new house) in a corner of our dining room. With the recent revision of Oregon's codes, even a small stove installed in front of drywall would require a hearth that juts at least 5 feet into the room (48" corner hearth). How can we modify the corner walls behind the stove so that we're able to install it closer to the corner, and thereby using a smaller hearth?
